Search and rescue workers worked for two days on the summit of Ecuador’s highest mountain, the Chimborazo volcano, to help evacuate a group of 12 mountaineers after an avalanche was reported in the area on Sunday (24/10) morning.
The Ecuadorian National Police, Riobamba firefighters and a number of other authorities participated in the evacuation effort.
Ecuador’s civil defense authorities reported that three people were killed and one injured.
The bodies found were then taken to the city of Riobamba. [lt/jm]
