Queen Elizabeth II admitted to hospital for examination

Buckingham Palace said Thursday that Queen Elizabeth II was in hospital overnight to undergo medical tests, having been forced to cancel a visit to Northern Ireland this week.

“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen on Wednesday (20/10) afternoon went to the hospital for some initial checkups, and returned to Windsor Castle on Thursday (10/21) at lunch, remaining in good spirits. good,” reads the royal statement.

News agency Press Association said there was no announcement when the Queen went to hospital because it was thought the initial examination would be brief, and at the same time to respect the privacy of the 95-year-old queen. The overnight stay in hospital was for “practical reasons” alone, the statement added.

Queen Elizabeth II was examined by a team of specialists at King Edward VII Hospital in the heart of London, where her late husband, Prince Philip, was treated for four weeks for heart disease.

Philip, who was married to Queen Elizabeth for 73 years, died in April 2021, just weeks before his 100th birthday.

Queen Elizabeth II, who has been on the throne since 1952 and is Britain’s longest-serving leader, was reported to have returned to duty on Thursday afternoon.

The Queen is scheduled to attend an ecumenical service in the border town of Armagh, which marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Northern Ireland.

Buckingham Palace said Wednesday morning that the Queen was “reluctant to accept medical advice to rest for the next few days.”

The decision was not coronavirus-related, and he is said to have been resting at his home at Windsor Castle, in west London.

Queen Elizabeth II, along with a number of senior members of the kingdom, are expected to attend a series of events related to the Climate Summit in Glasgow next month.

Last week he appeared to attend a large event using a cane, but royal officials said it was not linked to any particular health condition.

But the news that he was staying one night in the hospital raised concerns over his health condition, given his advanced age. This also raises the question of whether he should reduce his activity.

Next year Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate the Platinum Jubilee which marks 70 years on the throne. [em/lt]
