US to Vaccinate Children Age 5-11 from November

The US is gearing up to inoculate a COVID-19 vaccine in children aged five to 11 starting in November. It is a move that will make more than 28 million Americans eligible for injections, the White House said in a statement Wednesday.

President Joe Biden’s administration says it has set aside sufficient supplies and is partnering with 25,000 locations across the country — including doctors’ offices, hospitals, pharmacies and even schools — in anticipation of the approval of Pfizer’s vaccine for children in the near future.

“We look forward to the FDA and CDC decisions on Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages five to 11 in the next few weeks,” White House COVID coordinator Jeff Zients told reporters.

“We know millions of parents have been waiting for a COVID-19 vaccine for their children in this age group, and if the FDA and CDC certify the vaccine, our children will be ready for injections,” Zients said. AFP.

The FDA will meet with a panel of experts on this issue next week, followed by the CDC on November 2-3, where approval of the vaccine is then expected after these meetings. [my/jm]
