4.3 SR Earthquake Hits Bali, Three Killed

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale rocked Bali and its surroundings on Saturday (16/10) at 04.18 WITA. The earthquake, which was centered at a depth of 10 kilometers at a position 8 km northwest in Karangasem Regency, resulted in three deaths and two injuries.

“All the victims of the earthquake have been successfully evacuated and the impact of the damage is still being recorded by the Bali Provincial BPBD,” said Head of the Denpasar Class A Search and Rescue Office, Gede Darmada, as quoted from the Basarnas statement, Saturday (16/10).

According to Darmada, the injured victims have received medical treatment at the local Puskesmas and Karangasem Hospital. Meanwhile, the joint SAR team is still carrying out the evacuation process through the lake because the land route was blocked by landslides from Bukit Abang.

The Joint SAR Team from elements of the TNI/Polri, the Bali Provincial Government and Volunteers are still monitoring the Trunyan area, Kintamani, Bangli. So far, there have been no reports of casualties due to the earthquake.

“Tim rescue from the Karangasem SAR Post, they moved to one of the houses affected by the earthquake in Jatinuhu Hamlet, Ban Village, Abang District, Karangasem Regency, and together with other SAR elements ensured that conditions were safe and there were no more casualties,” said Darmada. [ah]
