U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris holds talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid in Washington, Tuesday (13/10).
“We will discuss issues of peace, security and prosperity for Palestinians as well as Israelis. And, of course, the regional challenges we face and our shared concerns, regarding Iran.”
Lapid met Harris and other top American officials to lay out Israel’s stance on Iran. On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called on the UN Security Council to take action against Iran increasing its nuclear program. Bennett said Iran’s behavior is a matter of every country, so it is subject to global accountability.
After talks between Iran and world powers about reviving the nuclear deal stalled earlier this year, Iran has violated the limits set by the deal.
Iran has enriched a small amount of its uranium to a level closest to the purity level for making weapons, while its uranium stockpile continues to grow.
Lapid said other issues including the global climate crisis would be discussed in meetings with American officials. [ka/rs]
