Runners from the African continent are still too tough for other runners in the Chicago marathon competition held over the weekend in Illinois.
Ethiopian runner Seifu Tura Abdiwak won the men’s elite category in Sunday’s competition, while Kenyan runner Ruth Chepngetich won the women’s elite category.
Tura, 24, completed the 42-kilometer route in 2.06.12, beating US runner Galen Rupp, who finished in 02.06.35.
Chepngetich, 27, reached the finish line in 02.22.31, while Emma Bates AS followed in second place in 02.24.20.
One of the popular long-distance races, the Boston Marathon, will be held Monday (11/10) in the northeastern US city. The coronavirus pandemic has caused the race, which is usually held in April, to be moved to this month. [vm/ft]
