Israel, Jewish settlers block water to Palestinians

The UN’s main human rights body on Friday blamed Israel for not giving Palestinians, in the occupied West Bank, equal access to water resources. The AP news agency reported the agency added that Israelis in Jewish settlements had also blocked water supplied to Palestine.

The report, presented Friday at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, said there was insufficient water in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza.

“The report also finds that water is not evenly distributed between Palestinians and Israelis due to Israel’s reluctance to approve water projects proposed by the Palestinians,” said Christian Salazar Volkmann, Director of Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. OHCHR), during the session the Board listened to the presentation of the report.

“Water quality in Gaza is low, and 96% of households receive water that does not meet drinking water quality standards,” said Volkmann.

Israel has frequently criticized the 47 members of the Human Rights Council for being biased against Israel.
