Taliban Immediately Disband Women’s Protest in Kabul

Taliban authorities quickly dispersed a protest by women calling for the right to education on Thursday (30/9) in Kabul.

Six women stand outside a public school holding posters declaring that education is essential to “human identity,” and calling for access to education not to be politicized.

Taliban members stood by them brandishing weapons before moving to disperse the demonstration in Kabul’s Kart-e-char district.

A Taliban spokesman at the scene said their group respects people’s right to protest but requested that police be notified in advance.

“This is none of our business. Just like all over the world, people have the right to protest, also in our country they have the right. But at least they should inform the security police first,” said Nasratullah, a Taliban intelligence official. [uh/lt]
