Roadside Bomb Hits Taliban Car, At least 1 Injured

A Taliban official said a roadside bomb had hit a Taliban car in the eastern provincial capital of Nangarhar, wounding at least one person.

No party has yet claimed responsibility for Saturday’s bombing. The Islamic State affiliate, which is based in eastern Afghanistan, said it was behind a similar attack in Jalalabad last week that killed 12 people.

Taliban spokesman Mohammad Hanif said the person injured in the attack was a worker.

An official at the Nangarhar provincial hospital who asked not to be named said the bomb killed a Taliban insurgent and wounded seven others, including four civilians.

The Taliban have been at war with ISIS since its emergence in Afghanistan in 2014. The growing ISIS affiliate has claimed responsibility for a number of recent attacks, including a gruesome bombing outside Kabul airport that killed 13 US personnel and 169 Afghans during last month’s evacuation.
