Two countries. One historic medal.
The joint Korean team won a historic bronze medal at the Asian Games, Saturday (25/8), in the women’s 200-meter dragon boat final. Team two Korea lost to China and the hosts, Indonesia, the Associated Press news agency reported.
It was the first time that a joint North and South Korean team had won a medal in a major international sporting event.
The medal was awarded to Korea, not North Korea or South Korea.
South Korea and North Korea join a team in three sports, namely basketball, dragon boating, and rowing.
Last week, athletes from North and South Korea paraded in the opening ceremony with the “unification” flag. The flag depicts a blue map of the Korean peninsula on a white background. [vm/ii]
