Burundi’s Prime Minister Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni on Tuesday (21/9) visited a hospital in Bujumbura, where victims of the grenade attack were being treated.
The attack took place late Monday in the Burundian capital, at a bustling market and bus station.
Bunyoni told reporters that of the 104 people injured in the blast, two died.
“The total number of people hit by shrapnel is 104, two of those 104 died from their injuries while more than 50 people suffered minor injuries, were treated quickly and were able to go home.”
Monday night’s deadly grenade attack followed another grenade attack on a bar on Sunday and another series of grenade attacks on Saturday night against Burundi’s international airport.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, officials said. [mg/ka]
