Government Extends PPKM per Level for 2 Weeks

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the PPKM policy per level in Java and Bali was extended for two weeks. Previously, the government extended PPKM per level every one week.

“It was decided that by looking at the existing developments, the PPKM level changes were enforced for two weeks for Java and Bali. However, evaluation is still carried out every week to anticipate changes that occur so quickly. We will not make drastic changes, I ask for the understanding of the Indonesian people for this. Why? Because we don’t want to make mistakes and there’s a lot we don’t know about this delta variant,” said Luhut in a press teleconference in Jakarta, Monday (20/9).

Luhut explained that the condition of the COVID-19 pandemic was claimed to be getting better. This, he said, was seen from the effective reproductive number of the corona virus in the country, which for the first time during the pandemic was below one or 0.98. This means that for every single COVID-19 case, the average transmission rate is 0.9 people or the number of cases will continue to decrease.

In addition, daily cases have shown an improving trend, which is below 2,000 cases, and active cases are also less than 60 thousand. With these various achievements, said Luhut, until now there are no more regencies/cities in the Java and Bali regions that are at level 4 PPKM status.

“However, the President reminded us all to remain vigilant and careful, because many countries after a while like this continue to rise again quickly. The risk of increasing cases is still high and can occur at any time. One of the risks is coming from abroad, especially considering the high cases of COVID-19 in neighboring countries. We also don’t want to miss the expansion of new variants such as the Mu and Lambda variants entering Indonesia,” he explained.

In the future, to prevent new variants of the corona virus from entering Indonesia, the government will limit the entry points for international travel to Indonesia, where air routes are only opened in Jakarta and Manado, sea routes are only opened via Batam, and Tanjung Pinang and land routes. only opened in Aruk Entikong, Nunukan and Montaain. The quarantine process for international travelers is also carried out strictly, namely a quarantine period of eight days, with three PCR tests.

PPKM easing

In the extension of the PPKM this time, the government again made adjustments or relaxations, including conducting trials for children under the age of 12 to be able to visit shopping centers or malls in the Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Jogjakarta and Surabaya areas. In addition, people with yellow status in the PeduliLindung application are allowed to enter the cinema area that has been opened in areas that apply PPKM levels 3 and 2.

The implementation of soccer matches in league 2 will be held in regencies/cities that apply PPKM levels 3 and 2 with a maximum of eight matches per week, and companies engaged in non-essential fields located in areas with PPKM level 3 and 2 are allowed to work from the office. or work from office (WFO) a maximum of 25 percent which is intended for employees who are fully vaccinated and must use the PeduliLindung application.

“The government once again asks the public not to be euphoric, which in the end can ignore all forms of existing prokes. What we have achieved today together is certainly not a form of euphoria that should be celebrated. The slightest carelessness that we do will lead to an increase in cases in the next few weeks,” he said.

PPKM Outside Java and Bali

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said PPKM per level outside Java and Bali would still be extended for two weeks, from September 21 to October 4, 2021.

He explained that until now, outside Java and Bali contributed 61.95 percent of the active cases of COVID-19 nationally. However, the trend of decreasing active cases occurred in several provinces such as Sumatra, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.

However, there are still 10 districts/cities with PPKM level 4 status because it is related to the agglomeration of the population and the vaccination rate is still below 50 percent. Then PPKM level 3 applies to 105 districts/cities, PPKM level 2 is in 250 districts/cities and as many as 21 districts/cities apply PPKM level 1 policies.

Even though there has been an improvement trend, the President, said Airlangga, still warning local governments to be aware of new variants such as Mu and Lamda as well as strengthening detection strategies such as 3T (testing, tracing, treatment), application of 3M health protocols, use of the PeduliLindung application and acceleration of vaccination programs. , especially in West Sumatra and Lampung to continue to be increased by at least 20 percent.

He further explained, in the near future regions outside Java and Bali will hold an important event such as the National Sports Week (PON) in Papua. The government also continues to make various preparations so that the national sports event can run safely and comfortably during the pandemic, one of which is by continuing to expand the coverage of COVID-19 vaccinations.

“Actual vaccinations in the aggregate in Jayapura district, in Jayapura City, Keroom district, then in Merauke and Mimika districts, the first dose has reached 56 percent and this will continue to be pushed to close to 70 percent, and the second dose 35 percent,” said Airlangga.

If the various preparations run smoothly, the government targets the Papua PON event to be attended by 25 percent of the audience. In addition, the international sports event Super Bike will be held in November in Lombok. The President also instructed that the acceleration of COVID-19 vaccination in these areas continue to be carried out.

Health Workers Safety Guarantee

On the same occasion, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin expressed his condolences and regretted the violent incident that claimed the life of a health worker named Gabriela Meilan by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua some time ago. He hopes that in the future, no more similar incidents will occur to health workers who are struggling at the forefront in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In fact, it is necessary to know that all health workers are deliberately sent to all corners of Indonesia, especially to fight against enemies who have killed more than 4 million people. We really hope that we can maintain the work safety and comfort of all health workers because of their heavy and noble duties in all corners of Indonesia, “said Budi.

Furthermore, Budi explained that with the improvement of pandemic conditions in Indonesia, the government still relies on four main strategies, namely strengthening health protocols, detection strategies that include testing, tracking, isolation or 3T, accelerating COVID-19 vaccination, and strengthening hospital service strategies.

Regarding the strategy to strengthen health protocols, the Ministry of Health, he said, will make the use of the PeduliLindung application more active in community activities. No less than 8 million barcodes have been used by the entire community to visit public places that use the application per day. In addition, the PeduliLindung website has also been visited more than 40 million times per day.

In addition, the detection strategy is claimed to have improved where on average there have been 10 close contacts for each positive confirmation case. But unfortunately, from the results of these close contacts, only 50 percent of the people want to do the test.

“Apparently there are still many who are worried or afraid of being tested, afraid of being found out if they are sick. I said it would be better to find out, 80 percent of this disease doesn’t need to be hospitalized, and almost 90 percent of those who go to the hospital recover. So it’s better for us to know so that we can take care of it,” he said.

Meanwhile, in terms of testing last week, as many as 1.1 million people were tested per week. According to him, this is in accordance with WHO standards which require testing to 1 person per 1000 population per week.

“About 270 thousand people per week for a positivity rate below five percent. Now our positivity rate is below five percent, we have (tested) 1.1 million people per week, it’s almost four times the WHO standard and I see this continues to increase even though positivity rate we have now dropped below 3 percent,” he concluded.
