FDA Approves Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Injection

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the third injection of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for Americans 65 years of age and older and adults at high risk of serious illness.

The result on Wednesday (22/9) also confirmed the injection of the booster (booster) for people in certain occupations such as health care workers, teachers, supermarket employees and those in prisons or homeless shelters.

The authorization is likely to pave the way for Thursday’s vote by an advisory committee at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on which groups of Americans will be eligible for the vaccine. booster Pfizer.

A panel at the CDC meets Wednesday (22/9) to discuss who gets the shot first booster, a controversial decision that comes more than a month after President Joe Biden first announced plans to administer the injection booster eight months after the second dose of injection.

An FDA panel last week by a majority voted against the White House’s plan to grant booster to most Americans, citing a lack of data on security booster as well as a lack of evidence of its benefits.

But this panel confirmed booster for people 65 years of age and over and those at high risk of becoming seriously ill.

The scientists stressed that the country’s main concern should be vaccinating those who have not yet had the shot.

“I want to highlight that by September 2021 in the US, deaths from COVID-19 are largely vaccine-preventable, with the main series being one of three vaccines available,” said Dr. Matthew Daley, CDC adviser who opened the discussion Wednesday (22/9).

A little over 55 percent of Americans are fully vaccinated, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center. While the highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread, the US recorded its highest daily death rate from the virus since last March. [uh/lt]
