Circulation of Fake Vaccine Cards Increases in US Black Market

With more and more businesses, universities, and federal and local governments demanding proof of COVID-19 vaccination, the black market in the United States is now flooded with fake vaccine cards.

American Customs officials in Cincinnati, Ohio, intercepted five shipments containing 1,683 fake COVID-19 vaccination cards and 2,034 Pfizer inoculated fake stickers since Aug. 16. The shipments from China were destined for private homes and apartments in the states of Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New York and Texas.

President Joe Biden recently asked all businesses with 100 employees or more to require their employees to be vaccinated. If employees refuse to be vaccinated, then they must be tested for COVID-19 once a week.

A global cybersecurity firm reported that the price and number of fake vaccine cards in circulation have skyrocketed since Biden announced the mandatory vaccine mandate in early September.

Last month, 15 people in New York were charged with selling and buying fake COVID-19 vaccine cards. A woman who refers to herself as @AntiVaxMomma on Instagram is accused of selling 250 fake vaccination certificates for about $200 per card.

The second suspect, a 27-year-old medical clinic worker, allegedly charged an additional $250 to enter fake vaccine data for at least 10 people into the New York immunization database.

Medical workers and essential workers are among those accused of buying counterfeit cards. (ka/ps)
